Muscat, the capital of Oman, is a captivating port city set on the Gulf of Oman, known for its vibrant souks and stunning seascapes framed by rugged mountains and vast deserts. Steeped in history dating back to antiquity, Muscat seamlessly blends modernity with tradition. Its skyline features a mix of contemporary high-rises and upscale shopping malls, juxtaposed with historic clifftop landmarks like the 16th-century Portuguese forts, Al Jalali and Mirani, which majestically overlook Muscat Harbor.
The InterContinental Muscat is a luxurious five-star urban resort set against the backdrop of Muscat’s picturesque landscape. It’s the perfect luxury location to discover Muscat’s rich cultural tapestry and the city’s renowned landmarks, such as the Royal Opera House, Mutrah Souk, and Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
Location
Strategically situated in the heart of Muscat’s prestigious residential and diplomatic quarter, the InterContinental Muscat boasts a prime beachfront location with views of the azure Gulf of Oman and the distant Hajar Mountains. The hotel spans 35 acres of lush gardens and has a long beachfront. Local restaurants can be found along this waterfront, and the Royal Opera House is just behind the hotel. The Mutrah Souk is right by the hotel, too, putting this hotel in a brilliant location in Muscat.
InterContinental Muscat is also twenty minutes from Muscat International Airport [MCT] and can be reached via transfer from the hotel or from the many taxis available outside the terminal (they’re all metered).
Style & Character
The hotel was built in 1977 as the first international hotel in Oman and offers a typical 1970s blocky concrete design, but the interiors of this hotel are a lovely contrast, offering elegance and sophistication.
The hotel has a huge and airy six-floor atrium. The InterContinental Concierge corner of the lobby by the entrance has been completely refurbished and is very modern. Next door is the reception desk, and to the side is a contemporary restaurant. Three elevators form a triangle and take you up to the rooms.
Outside, the hotel’s expansive gardens and beachside location make it a perfect retreat for those seeking relaxation and adventure.
Service & Facilities
The InterContinental Muscat offers a plethora of facilities designed to cater to every guest’s needs. The Palm Beach Club is a highlight, featuring two floodlit tennis courts, a 25-meter Olympic-sized pool, a lagoon-shaped pool, a fully equipped fitness center, a dry sauna, and a Jacuzzi. Guests can also enjoy leisurely strolls on the sandy beach. The hotel’s elegant meeting spaces for business travelers can accommodate up to 500 guests, making it one of Muscat’s premier event venues.
Rooms
The guest rooms at the InterContinental Muscat guest rooms have very recently completed a comprehensive remodel. They are stunning with new carpets, furniture, and fittings. The color scheme is oatmeal dotted with blues, reminding you of the sea beyond. Each room offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Oman, the Hajar Mountains, or the hotel’s sparkling swimming pools and lush gardens.
The Classic, Premium Rooms and Suites are all tastefully furnished with elegant decor, featuring French windows and private balconies. Guests can enjoy various amenities, including a coffee maker, hairdryer, room service, television, bath amenities, daily housekeeping, complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning, slippers, workspace, complimentary bottled water, and a pillow menu.
Food & Drink
Dining at the InterContinental Muscat offers a variety of dining options, each providing a unique gastronomic experience. Trader Vic’s, renowned for its French Polynesian fare, offers exotic cocktails and the signature Crispy Duck. Musandam provides all-day dining with international cuisine, while Trattoria Tomato offers authentic Italian dishes by the poolside.
For a boutique café experience, Tr-Eat serves excellent coffee and pastries. Takara brings the flavors of Japan with fresh sushi and a Teppanyaki bar.
