Milan, Italy’s fashion and design capital, boasts an impressive selection of luxury hotels that combine high-end amenities with exquisite design and historic charm. Milan’s major hotel brands are located in the city’s heart. Many are hidden up attractive cobbled side streets and steps from the designer stores, and all are within walking distance of Piazza del Duomo, the main cathedral and central square in Milan.

You may or may not know that if you book any luxury hotel in Milan, including the Four Seasons and Bulgari, which are detailed below, using an official Preferred Partner agent like our luxury travel concierge, you will get two free breakfasts along with other fantastic benefits such as a delicious welcome gift, a prioritized room upgrade (subject to availability) and $100 resort credit.

For those of you who travel in luxury, we have outlined your very best luxury hotels in Milan below:

1. Best Luxury Hotel In Milan: Four Seasons Milan

Four Seasons Milan (or Four Seasons Hotel Milano) is housed in a former 15th-century convent that is situated up a tiny side street in the heart of Milan. The hotel exudes glamour and sophistication, featuring a chic bar, a restaurant that opens onto a lush, flower-filled courtyard, and a stunning spa tucked away in the historic depths of the convent’s cellar.

With just over 100 rooms, the Four Seasons feels boutique, and its setting, overlooking its own private lush plant-filled courtyard garden, is unique and feels calm and peaceful compared to the busy cobbled streets outside the hotel’s doors.

Upon entering, a grand staircase leads to a hidden courtyard, restaurant, and spa. To the right is the check-in desk, down a corridor leading to the lifts and guest rooms, while to the left, a spacious, high-ceilinged bar area is adorned with greenery, creating a fresh and inviting ambiance.

The hotel’s main restaurant extends into the gorgeous garden courtyard, where guests can relax on the lawns or on tables and chairs hidden amongst the greenery, under parasols, and in the shade of the trees. This expansive garden oasis offers an unexpectedly tranquil escape from the bustling city center of Milan.

Designed by Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola, the spa is a standout. It boasts a unique, inviting pool set within the convent’s former cellar, accessed via steps between thick stone pillars. Guests can swim in its warm waters beneath the breathtaking 19th-century vaulted ceilings, creating a serene and unforgettable experience. While this pool is not large, it is the most atmospheric in Milan and features in our listing of the best hotel pools in Milan.

The spa features opulent changing rooms, a steam room, mood showers, and several treatment rooms, including a couples’ massage room. The relaxation lounge with a jetted tub and fireplace feels like a serene retreat within an ancient pyramid, offering an otherworldly sense of tranquility.

If you stay at Four Seasons in Milan, you can look forward to super chic evenings in their historic bar area and sitting out on the veranda in the morning as the sun warms your shoulders with your pick from one of the best buffets and a la carte breakfasts in Milan.

2. Bulgari Hotel Milan

Bulgari Hotel Milan (or Bulgari Hotel Milano) is one of Milan’s most intimate and boutique luxury hotels, nestled on an ultra-exclusive private street in the city center. The neighborhood, secured by 24/7 guards and gated access, exudes privacy and prestige. After entering this affluent enclave, a left turn leads you up a short, elegant driveway to the hotel’s discreet entrance.

If you haven’t stayed at a Bulgari before, I would describe them as a cross between a stylish Park Hyatt and an Aman hotel, and this is one of the best Bulgari Hotels In The World.

Tips

Which Bulgari (or Bvlgari) hotel is the best in the world? The best Bulgari hotels offer a similar level of luxury to the best Four Seasons hotels in the world. A big difference is that all Bulgari hotel stays will earn you Marriott Bonvoy points, which is a major advantage over Four Seasons hotels as Four Seasons hotels have no loyalty rewards. Bulgari hotels are not the cheapest Marriott hotels, but if you book via our luxury travel concierge, we can offer you free breakfast, hotel credit, prioritized room upgrade (subject to availability) and more.

The rooms at the Bulgari Milan have an Asian aesthetic, exude luxury, and are modern, with lots of pines, wood, and black marble. The bathrooms are usually black marble and many have floor-to-ceiling windows so you can look outside while enjoying bubbles in the stand-alone bath.

The amenities are Bulgari, with generous bottle replenishment and wonderfully fragrant products. The bar and restaurant boast an unmatched atmosphere, often regarded as the best in Milan and arguably one of the finest spots to spend an evening anywhere in the world.

I don’t think Spa pools get more sparkly than the Spa pool at Bulgari Hotel Milan. The tiles on the stairs of the pool are made of pure gold, and the mosaic tiling in the rest of the pool also sparkles like jewels. This is a serene and luxurious place to relax on a comfy lounger.

Breakfast here is perfect. It is outside on the terrace, delivered with panache and made from the finest ingredients.

The best time at most Bulgari hotels is in the evening when the lighting is dimmed and funky music is played. In the summer, everyone heads out into the palm-encrusted gardens to hang out and enjoy a cocktail on comfy sofas, under blobby lanterns that hang from the trees like glowing melons. The scene is like something off a catwalk, and stylish guests mingle with sophisticated locals to create the top bar in Milan.

But it’s perhaps because this bar is in Italy, it rises above the trendy bars in the rest of the world as the family is embraced here. Highly stylish designer outfits mix with young kids and families enjoying an evening out. The vibe here is just right.

Beyond the grandeur, the reasons to stay here are its location, the glorious views many of the suites share over Milan, and the best and largest spa in Milan with the best and largest luxury hotel pool in Milan.

The views and the spa are the reasons to stay here. Because the building that houses Palazzo Parigi is tall, the views are phenomenal, and it spans the horizon of rooftops in Milan. If you book a suite, you will also have a balcony area from which to enjoy this vista, pictured above. It provides a breath of fresh air after navigating and claustrophobic and historic streets below.

Rooms here are modern and beautifully refurbished with stunning bathrooms.

The bar and restaurant here spills out into the garden and is a wonderful place to spend the evening (although it is not quite as trendy as the bars at the Bulgari and Four Seasons). I loved the lush gardens where you can grab a table amongst the greenery.

At 1,700 m², this is the largest Spa in Milan and it’s magnificent. The Spa offers numerous treatment rooms, and with the exception of the candlelit corridors, the whole wellness area is bathed in natural light. The pool here is large by Milanese standards, with big windows and luxuriously padded loungers flanking each side. Beyond the pool is a jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna, and a shower next to an ice machine so you can shock your body into wellness.
