Upon entering, a grand staircase leads to a hidden courtyard, restaurant, and spa. To the right is the check-in desk, down a corridor leading to the lifts and guest rooms, while to the left, a spacious, high-ceilinged bar area is adorned with greenery, creating a fresh and inviting ambiance.
The hotel’s main restaurant extends into the gorgeous garden courtyard, where guests can relax on the lawns or on tables and chairs hidden amongst the greenery, under parasols, and in the shade of the trees. This expansive garden oasis offers an unexpectedly tranquil escape from the bustling city center of Milan.
Designed by Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola, the spa is a standout. It boasts a unique, inviting pool set within the convent’s former cellar, accessed via steps between thick stone pillars. The rooms at the Bulgari Milan have an Asian aesthetic, exude luxury, and are modern, with lots of pines, wood, and black marble. The bathrooms are usually black marble and many have floor-to-ceiling windows so you can look outside while enjoying bubbles in the stand-alone bath.
The amenities are Bulgari, with generous bottle replenishment and wonderfully fragrant products. The bar and restaurant boast an unmatched atmosphere, often regarded as the best in Milan and arguably one of the finest spots to spend an evening anywhere in the world.
I don’t think Spa pools get more sparkly than the Spa pool at Bulgari Hotel Milan. The tiles on the stairs of the pool are made of pure gold, and the mosaic tiling in the rest of the pool also sparkles like jewels. This is a serene and luxurious place to relax on a comfy lounger.
Breakfast here is perfect. It is outside on the terrace, delivered with panache and made from the finest ingredients.
The best time at most Bulgari hotels is in the evening when the lighting is dimmed and funky music is played. In the summer, everyone heads out into the palm-encrusted gardens to hang out and enjoy a cocktail on comfy sofas, under blobby lanterns that hang from the trees like glowing melons. The scene is like something off a catwalk, and stylish guests mingle with sophisticated locals to create the top bar in Milan.
But it’s perhaps because this bar is in Italy, it rises above the trendy bars in the rest of the world as the family is embraced here. Highly stylish designer outfits mix with young kids and families enjoying an evening out. The vibe here is just right.
3. Palazzo Parigi
Palazzo Parigi Hotel & Grand Spa Milan (or Milano) is located just steps from Milan’s Haute fashion district and the artistic Brera neighborhood. Rooms here are modern and beautifully refurbished with stunning bathrooms.
The bar and restaurant here spills out into the garden and is a wonderful place to spend the evening (although it is not quite as trendy as the bars at the Bulgari and Four Seasons). I loved the lush gardens where you can grab a table amongst the greenery.
At 1,700 m², this is the largest Spa in Milan and it’s magnificent. The Spa offers numerous treatment rooms, and with the exception of the candlelit corridors, the whole wellness area is bathed in natural light. The pool here is large by Milanese standards, with big windows and luxuriously padded loungers flanking each side. Beyond the pool is a jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna, and a shower next to an ice machine so you can shock your body into wellness.
4. Mandarin Oriental Milan
Mandarin Oriental Milan is located just steps from La Scala. It offers elegant rooms, innovative dining, and a fabulous spa. With interiors by acclaimed Italian designer Antonio Citterio, the 104 rooms are luxurious and chic. From fine fare to al fresco entertaining, dining here is fun.
This hotel also has a large Spa that features six treatment rooms, a hair salon, a fitness center, and an atmospheric underground pool partially lit by candles. The pool has loungers flanking one side and is surrounded by fringe-style blinds on two sides. It is a very relaxing and sophisticated area to relax.
5. Park Hyatt Milan
Park Hyatt Milan is a dark and moody located at one of the entrances of The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy’s oldest active shopping gallery and a major landmark of Milan.
