Hidden on the clifftops of the southwest coast of radiant Mallorca, the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort is a lavish, family-oriented resort.
The hotel offers three gorgeous pools, including a shaded double pool suitable for toddlers, which sits next to the play area. It has a stunning bar with a glorious terrace where you can sit and watch the sunset over the bay. Its restaurants have terraces that spill out onto the lawns, and its Mar restaurant is completely alfresco, hidden under pine trees at the end of the garden.
The St. Regis is a subsidiary of Marriott, so you can earn and burn Marriott Bonvoy points here, and this hotel is, without a doubt, the best Marriott hotel in Mallorca.
Location
The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort is situated on the southwest coast of the beautiful island of Mallorca, Spain. While the hotel is only around a 20-minute drive from Palma airport, it is a paradise hidden behind fences and gates.
As you arrive, a grand set of shiny St. Regis-branded gates swing open, and your car will reverberate down a cobblestone avenue before arriving at the circular driveway that forms the hotel’s entrance.
Beyond the front door, the main hall is magnificent, with an awe-inspiring wooden ceiling that must be more than three storeys above the main reception area.
Beyond the reception is the bar, a pool table that my son and my husband loved playing on, and a huge windy stairwell leading to the main hotel restaurant. All sorts of doorways lead off this palatial space and take you to the numerous generously sized rooms.
Style & Character
While the main hall at the St. Regis Mallorca is undoubtedly majestic, almost cavernous in size, your main reason to stay here is for the gardens, pools, and terraces outside.
The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca gardens are extensive and almost luminous under the bright Mallorcan sun. They deliver a beautiful mish-mash of brilliant greens, vibrant florals, and fragrant blooms. Meandering pathways, bordered by lush greenery, link the pools and restaurants, and pines shade the tables and chairs in Mar restaurant at the end of the garden.
Beyond the garden is a metal gate that leads to a coastal pathway, and a small sandy cove sits at the bottom of the cliffs beyond the resort.
The hotel’s architectural design features traditional elements such as terracotta roofs, whitewashed walls, and graceful arches. It is designed in parallel to the coastline, so all the rooms face the gardens and the ocean beyond.
Stylish luxury furnishings, rich fabrics, and tasteful artwork create an ambiance of warmth and sophistication throughout the hotel. The bar and lounge areas area is chic and brand new, the rooms feel crisp and modern, and balconies and terraces wrap around the property, providing beautiful views.
Service & Facilities
The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort pools are a stunning property highlight. The main pool is the centerpiece of the resort’s pool area. This large pool has an infinity edge and tiered sections that run down the gently sloping lawns. This stylish pool area is surrounded by loungers, shaded by umbrellas, and is edged by lush landscaped gardens.
Families traveling with children will appreciate the dedicated children’s pool, which comprises two different shallow pool areas shaded by an awning, where younger guests can splash and play in a safe environment. The children’s pool is right next to the children’s play area with climbing frames and a slide.
In addition to the outdoor pools, the resort also boasts an indoor pool facility, providing guests with a relaxing retreat regardless of the weather. The indoor pool area is elegantly designed and offers a tranquil ambiance.
The resort is ideally situated along the southwest coast of Mallorca, providing direct access to a beautiful stretch of coastline. Guests can easily access the Mediterranean Sea from the resort grounds. If you walk to the end of the garden under archways covered in vines, you will reach a little gate. The gateman will let you out and back in so you can explore the coastal path or climb down to the nearby cove and swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea.
While there are no loungers on the beach here, and the beach is a bit of a climb from the hotel, it is very accessible should you wish to take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.
Rooms
Guests can choose from 125 elegantly appointed rooms. We were traveling with our son, so we booked a generously sized junior suite that fitted the 3 of us, myself, my husband, and my son, on a rollaway bed. The suite was large in dimensions and even with the extra bed, there was plenty of space to spare.
I liked the decor in our room. It felt brand new and featured pine wood flooring, a large, comfy bed with an ottoman at the end, and a patterned headboard set into the wall with inset lighting. A luxurious thick rug sat around the bed, softening the decor. It felt lovely on your feet. The side tables were also pleasingly large.
In one corner, there was a table that could be used as a dining table or a desk, and there was also a large minibar unit with kettles and everything else you need hiding in a floor-to-ceiling cupboard.
The room was decorated with a bunch of fresh flowers when we arrived, and there was a small cake, a bottle of wine, and two bottles of water waiting for us.
This junior suite was a great room for a good night’s sleep. Beyond the superbly comfortable beds, the room benefitted from inset curtains, which meant that not even a spec of light could get through them in the morning, so it was easy to sleep in until late.
The bathroom was also well-designed, with a separate toilet, bath, and a shower cubicle. There were loads of different and deliciously smelling shower gels and creams set out on the marble counters, and there were plenty of full-length mirrors throughout the room so you could check your outfit before leaving.
The only disadvantage of the room was a rather odd sensor in the floor that turned on some of the lights when you stood on it. The sensors were placed on either side of the king bed, so when you got up to go to the bathroom at night, bingo! You lit up the room like a Christmas tree and woke everyone up.
Our solution was to unscrew the associated light bulbs and re-screw them back in when we left. While this was not an official solution, this solved the problem. It’s worth dealing with this issue before you head to bed if you expect to need the bathroom in the night, or you might upset your partner at some ungodly hour with a bathroom break.
Outside each room is a balcony or terrace. Our huge balcony had a table and chairs set out on it and offered wonderful views over the gardens and the sea beyond. What more could you want?
If you have a family, you should book one of the ground-floor terrace rooms. These rooms open up straight to the hotel’s lawns so the kids could run out and straight over to the pools, which would be great!
Food & Drink
The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort offers a diverse array of culinary experiences. Es Fum is their Michelin-starred restaurant that offers an elegant and sophisticated dining experience, showcasing creative Mediterranean cuisine prepared with the finest locally sourced ingredients. Here, guests can indulge in gourmet dishes crafted by talented chefs while enjoying panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Terra Restaurant offers a farm-to-table concept, meaning that the restaurant sources its ingredients directly from local farms and food producers, ensuring that each dish created is of the highest quality and has been carefully and sustainably grown and harvested. This is where you take breakfast, which is a delightful experience, particularly as breakfast is available until 11:00 am so you can meander down to eat in no particular hurry.
The buffet spread is excellent with loads of fruit, breads, cold meats, cheeses, cereals, and more, plus there is an a la carte option, all included for free if you book your stay via our luxury travel concierge.
For most of the summer, you will eat breakfast out on the terrace, and a piano player tinkles right through to 11:00 am. I’m a sucker for live music and pleasant piano tunes playing in the background, so I loved this aspect of the hotel.
Mar Sea Club was my favorite restaurant because of its whimsical setting under the pines at the end of the garden overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Eating here felt like you were eating in a forest, and even when it was dark, the setting among the greenery was dreamy.
Seating was placed on different levels across stepped decking, and straw-laced pergolas or trees shaded each separate seating area. The chef here delivers delicious creations made from fresh local ingredients.
Finally, the St. Regis Bar was the perfect venue for evening drinks and socializing, offering an extensive selection of fine wines, spirits, and handcrafted cocktails. This bar area was recently refurbished, and it spills out onto a long terrace where you can grab one of the padded rattan sofa seats and enjoy drinks delivered to your table as the sun sets. Again, the bar hosts live music performances, which adds to the ambiance.
Conclusion
St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort is a beautiful boutique resort hidden away in magical gardens that span the clifftop in one of the most sophisticated areas of Mallorca.
The rooms here are gorgeous and modern, the gardens are simply gorgeous and the pools are a wonderful place to while away the days.
This is undoubtedly one of the best Marriott hotels in the world, and I wouldn’t hesitate to reccomend it for a relaxing break in the sun by a gorgeous pool, followed by evenings on the terrace as you listen to live bands while the sun goes down.
