1. Four Seasons Mallorca, Spain

Four Seasons Mallorca is not only the best Four Seasons in Europe, but it is also the best Four Seasons beach resort in the world in our opinion. We were blown away by this hotel’s beauty and setting in a national park.

The beach at Four Seasons Mallorca sits on the edge of a bay that is protected by surrounding islands. This means that the sea on this bay is almost always flat calm, like a mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountainsides like an oil painting.

If you step out to the front of the resort, you’ll find yourself in a tiny, perfect cove. This was our favorite spot for swimming; it was so beautiful.

Four Seasons Mallorca Beach
Four Seasons Mallorca Beach

The beach’s soft sand extends into the water, so the seabed feels smooth and velvety beneath your feet as you wade out. Sunlight dances on the sandy bottom, creating beautiful ripples of light, while the crystal-clear water lets you see fish swimming around your legs.

I recommend taking a dip in the warm sea during the evening. At this time, the ocean looks like a sheet of glass. It’s unlike anywhere else we’ve visited.

On a larger patch of beach, this Four Seasons provides serviced loungers just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Here, you can relax on plush lounge chairs with thick cushions shaded by charming wooden and straw parasols.

Beyond the beach are two great pools and an additional spa pool, wonderful lawns, a terrace where you can listen to live music every night, and two restaurants, one on the veranda and the other at the shore line where you can dine while the stars come out. All of this is hidden in a protected forest and away from civilization.

Four Seasons Resort Mallorca At Formentor 3
Review: Four Seasons Mallorca

Reviews

Four Seasons Resort Mallorca At Formentor is an extraordinary boutique Four Seasons hotel hidden in an unspoiled nature reserve on Mallorca’s sparkling coastline. I can’t think of any other hotel in Europe with such a stunning setting, plus this Four Seasons hotel offers direct access to a pristine beach. The hotel peeps out of a forested hillside at the foot of huge mountains that rise directly from the crystal clear Mediterranean. You could be forgiven for mistaking these mountains for the volcanic landscape in Hawaii or the Piton peaks in Saint Lucia.

2. Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, France

Slipping down a spot to position two in this listing is Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons hotel s located between Nice and Monaco in France. It sits at the tip of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula, facing the Mediterranean, in a private 17-acre estate with pine trees and flowers of a thousand colors. The hotel also has a 8500 ft² spa with an indoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, an indoor and outdoor gym, a Jacuzzi, saunas, steam rooms, and spa gardens.

This is the only luxury hotel with an air-conditioned glass lift down to their beach club (that I have come across) in the world. This Willy Wonka lift leads to the beach club, which is set on a rocky peninsula and hosts a large saltwater pool, a lunch restaurant, and numerous loungers where you can strike a pose. The guests at this hotel and beach club are super chic!

Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, A Four Seasons hotel pool
Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, A Four Seasons hotel pool

This hotel takes position two rather than position one as it does not have a sandy beach, and there is only one pool, which is some walk (plus a lift journey) from the hotel’s rooms. By comparison, Four Seasons Mallorca has two main pools, which are a shorter walk from its hotel rooms. There’s an adults-only pool, a family pool, and a beach in front of the resort, so it has the edge over the Cap Ferrat Four Seasons for pools and beach. That said, Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, drips with French chic, and the terrace is “oh la la” fun in the evening, so it’s almost impossible to choose the best between these two hotels. They are both paradise.

Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, is open from March to November, and you will find the best deals here at the end of March and the start of November. The spectacular Club Dauphin, with an Olympic-sized heated seawater swimming pool, is open throughout the season.

My lasting memory of this hotel is of sitting under deliciously scented pines on that magical terrace, watching the distant ships pass by at the end of the Cap Ferrat peninsula while stars twinkled above. I love smelling the greenery in the gorgeous gardens at the end of a hot day under the Mediterranean sun and sipping a beer as live jazz plays into the starry night. If you have a soul, you cannot fail to fall in love with this hotel and the people you share it with.

Review: Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel

Reviews

The best hotel on the French Riviera is the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel located near the small town of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. Set in Belle Epoque splendor in a building that dates back to the 1800s, this ultra-luxury hotel offers everything you would expect of the very best Four Seasons hotel, but with a sprinkle of French chic. We most recently stayed at Four Seasons Hotel Cap-Ferrat in April 2022.

3. Four Seasons Milan, Italy

Four Seasons Milan (or Four Seasons Hotel Milano) is housed in a former 15th-century convent that is situated up a tiny side street in the heart of Milan. It oozes glamour and sophistication with a stylish bar, a restaurant that spills out onto an enviably green and flower-filled courtyard, and an impressive spa hidden in the historic depths of the convent’s cellar.

The spa is excellent. Created by Spanish designer and architect Patricia Urquiola, you will find a most unusual and warm pool in the convent’s former cellar, which features in our best hotel pools in Milan. This pool is reached via steps between thick pillars, and you swim in its warm waters under 19th-century vaulted ceilings. While this pool is not large, it is the most atmospheric in Milan.

Four Seasons Milan Bar
Four Seasons Milan Bar

Four Seasons Milan is historic and stylish. It is also boutique by Four Seasons standards, with just over 100 rooms, making any stay here feel even more exclusive. As you enter the hotel, a majestic staircase in front of you leads down to a hidden courtyard, a restaurant, and a spa. To your right is the check-in desk, down a corridor that takes you to the lifts and hotel rooms. To your left, you will find a large, airy, and high-ceilinged bar area partitioned by walls of greenery.

In front of you, the main restaurant spills out onto the most idyllic and lush courtyard, where you can sit on lawns and under parasols and trees and enjoy a peaceful bite or a drink. This large courtyard is a wonderful garden escape in Milan’s hectic city center.

Numerous weatherworn cream stone pillars support the ancient arches that form corridors around the courtyard on the ground level. These pillars continue through the large bar and restaurant area and give the space a sense of history.

3. Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, England

If you are looking for immaculate British history, look no further. Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire is located in Dogmersfield Park, which has been home to Bishops, Lords, and Baronets and has hosted Kings and Queens over the last ten centuries. In fact, the first record of the Estate, which now makes up the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, dates back to 1086.

For the following 700 years, the Estate passed between the Crown and Church before becoming a family home, then billeting for airmen during World War II as well as being a school. In 2005 this manor house became a Four Seasons hotel and this beautiful house sits on the top of a hill looking out over the endless fields and rolling hills of middle England.

Four Seasons Hampshire Lounge

Things to love about this hotel are the activities. From shooting to biking to horseriding to hiking down to the lake, this Four Seasons will satisfy the country gentleman (or lady) in you. It also has a beautiful adult’s indoor-outdoor pool flanked with stylish loungers, an excellent ESPA spa, and the Shark reef pool with a massive red slide and loads of sprayers, an absolute highlight for the kids.

The hotel itself is classic in design in the bedrooms, with classy marble and dark woods in the foyer and entrance lounges, and the Wild Carrot bar and restaurant offers a chic and stylish place to eat and drink with tropical green wallpaper, lots of dark wood, and a beautiful terrace which leads onto the lawns and is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Reviews

The first time we reviewed Four Seasons Hampshire was back in 2016, and following a return visit, I feel compelled to share exactly why this hotel is hands down the best family hotel in the English Countryside and one of the best Four Seasons hotels in the world. The Four Seasons Hampshire is set in a beautifully restored Georgian Manor on a 500-acre estate in the English countryside. The hotel is only just over an hour from central London by car and just 10 minutes from Fleet railway station (with a train service to London Waterloo Station four times an hour).

4. Four Seasons Gresham Palace Budapest, Hungary

Four Seasons Budapest is truly one of the most breathtaking and historic hotels in the world. Its lobby alone is unforgettable. The hotel’s Art Nouveau exterior is a stunning mix of arches, columns, and sculptures, and you’re welcomed inside through a beautiful black-iron gate, with intricate details and framed by glass.

Once you step inside, you’ll feel a cool air-conditioned breeze flowing through the grand interior. The mosaic floor sparkles beneath your feet with thousands of tiny cream-colored tiles while a dazzling Preciosa chandelier hangs from the domed ceiling above.

In the afternoon, soft piano music creates a peaceful ambiance, perfect for enjoying delicious Hungarian pastries. As the evening arrives, expert mixologists serve up creative cocktails in this magnificent setting. The space feels like a charming, historic shopping arcade, and you can almost imagine the scene from over a century ago, when horse-drawn carriages would drop off wealthy visitors at this elegant venue.

Beyond the stunning foyer lies a brasserie-style restaurant with a bar that extends onto the cobbled street, offering the perfect spot to sip a drink while watching the flow of tourists and locals. Upstairs hosts a beautiful multi-level spa and pool, along with the luxurious rooms that boast incredible views of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, spanning the River Danube between Buda, along with vistas of the tree-covered hills and Buda Castle.

What’s remarkable about this exceptional hotel is its affordability. Budapest, with its lower living costs and wages compared to Western Europe, makes this Four Seasons surprisingly cheap without compromising on luxury. It matches the opulence of any other Four Seasons worldwide. The lavish breakfast, where no expense is spared, is especially noteworthy—and you can enjoy it for free when booking through our luxury travel concierge.

Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest is a haven of luxury and tranquility set amidst the ever-evolving bustle of Budapest. Our arrival was on a hot day. It was around 35 °C centigrade outside, and upon entering the cool and classy Gresham Palace, I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders as the bellmen relieved me of my bags and ushered me over to the smiling receptionist. Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest has the best location of any hotel in Budapest.

5. Four Seasons Hotel London At Ten Trinity Square, England

Set in the heart of the City, overlooking Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, Four Seasons Hotel London At Ten Trinity Square is as impressive inside as it is from the outside. This Four Seasons Hotel is one of the best luxury hotels in London and is located in a 1922 Grade-II listed former Port of London Authority HQ, opposite the Tower of London.

The grand lobby lies at the heart of the hotel, which hosts all-day dining and afternoon tea and drinks under a backlit art-deco style dome. Off this hall are two restaurants, Le Dame de Pic, from Michelin-starred French chef Anne-Sophie Pic and an Asian restaurant serving Chinese and Japanese food. This hotel’s communal areas are particularly stunning and steeped in history.

The hotel has just 100 rooms, including 11 suites, so it is boutique in size. Executive rooms have separate living areas and can sleep a family of four, while nine Heritage suites on the ground floor boast ceilings at least five meters high.

The lower ground floor has a 1,600 m² spa, eight treatment rooms, a hammam suite, and a 14-meter pool. The wood-paneled UN ballroom is THE event space in the city and has views over the Tower, Tower Bridge, and the Thames.

Cheapest Four Seasons Hotels
10 Least Expensive Four Seasons Hotels In The World

Tips

Some of the most expensive Four Seasons hotels, and possibly the most amazing in historic glamor, are also some of the cheapest if you book in low season. Equally, some lesser-known cities like Budapest offer wonderful Four Seasons hotels at incredibly low rates. The Four Seasons brand of hotels doesn’t discount its rooms, but you can sometimes buy a packaged-up break with free nights. Equally, if you book on unpopular nights, such as winter weekends in European cities, or Sunday nights at hotels like Four Seasons Hampshire, you can pick up a much cheaper room rate.

This Four Seasons hotel is probably the most highly luxurious Four Seasons in London and is certainly one of the best Four Seasons in England, but in terms of location for shopping, the parks and theatreland (Soho, etc), the Four Seasons Hotel London At Park Lane (below) is best.

8. Four Seasons Hotel London At Park Lane, England

Four Seasons Hotel London At Park Lane is a beautiful property in a modern building. The foyer of the Four Seasons London is decadently attired in black marble and warm burgundy reds.

The rooms are exactly what you would expect from a Four Seasons and exactly what you’d wish for from a hotel of this caliber. Beautifully finished and perfectly appointed. Your every need is catered for.

The rooms’ decor is traditional and classy, with a plush feel. Objet d’art is scattered throughout, and black-and-white prints of stars from the past hang from the walls. The decor is a mix of warm golds, browns, and deep reds. The bathrooms are black, shiny, and luxurious. Each of the rooms has been recently refurbished, so the whole hotel feels brand spanking new!

Even the plush corridors are worth a mention. Adorned with photos of glamorous stars in the vain of Marylin Munroe, they feel safe and luxurious (you need to use your room key to get the lift to take you up to the corridors and rooms).

The Four Seasons Geneva is a lakefront property in this Swiss city’s heart. Geneva airport is a short drive away, around 20-30 minutes in a taxi. The hotel itself is slap bang in the middle of Geneva you can walk everywhere.

Geneva is a year-round destination. Summer is balmy and ideal for romantic walks around the lake and boat trips across the lake. Autumn is a misty and romantic time to visit, with the leaves falling off the trees. Spring is also an uplifting tie to visit, but it can get awfully cold in the winter, so I would always choose to visit late spring, summer, or early autumn to hedge my bets with the weather.

There are two entrances to Four Seasons Geneva, one at the front of the building overlooking the lake, where the supercars drop off the high-net-worth guests. This rotating door leads onto a grand marble foyer which is so swish, it will really blow you away.

The superb restaurant, Il Lago, forms the other entrance to this Four Seasons hotel. This restaurant in itself is a reason to stay at this magnificent hotel. Hand on heart, it’s the best restaurant I have ever eaten in!

Four Seasons Grand Hotel Du Cap Ferrat Vs Eden Roc Which Is Best2
Four Seasons Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat Vs. Eden Roc: Which Is Best?

Tips

Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel Vs. Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, which is best? We recently reviewed Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel as we like to stay in this hotel at least once (ideally twice) per year, it's honestly that good and yes it is worth the hefty price tag too. But how do these two hotels compare? Four Seasons Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat is situated on the tip of the Cap Ferrat peninsula, on the very edge of Nice and between Nice and Monaco. This is one of the most prestigious places to own a property in the world.

The hotel itself is a mass of magnificent and historic corridors leading onto majestic bars and lounges, all encased in marble and dark woods. It offers a playground for wealthy bankers and rich tourists. The rooms are just as immaculate and historic as down below. At the Four Seasons Geneva, the rooms are beautiful and historic.

Standard rooms are the base rooms and offer the best deal whilst still taking advantage of the incredible experience of staying at a Four Seasons hotel. They are smaller than the Superior rooms at 36m2 but are still classic and beautiful. The larger Superior (25 – 29 M2) and Delux (32 – 36 M2) rooms are less cheap and consequently offer an even better experience with more space. It is worth requesting the largest room in each category.

The Loft Studio is charming in the eaves of the building with a 6th-floor view. It pairs an ergonomic workspace with the views of Geneva so you can look out at the view while working. A superbly appointed marble bathroom that is around the same size as the room (enormous!) has a large vanity, a European soaking tub, an oversized rain shower, and a private hammam. This room can also take 2 adults plus one crib which is useful if you travel with your baby.

A decadent spa and an elegant swimming pool offer superb rooftop views across the lake, making this the perfect hotel place to relax. Loungers face the view and with so few hotels in Geneva offering pools, this pool is a great feature of this Four Seasons. It is worth mentioning that the Kempinski Geneva also has a fabulous pool although the rooms do not match the Four Seasons level of luxury.

Discount Four Seasons Cap Ferrat
10 Best Discounts At Four Seasons Cap-Ferrat

Tips

The best hotel on the French Riviera is the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel. How can guests get the best deal, offer or discount? Set in Belle Epoque splendor, in a building that dates back to the 1800s, this ultra-luxury hotel offers everything you would expect of the very best Four Seasons hotel, but with a sprinkle of French chic. The Grand Hotel Cap Ferrat sits on the very tip of the Cap Ferrat peninsula, in the prime position amidst gated luxury villas. The hotel is accessed by large pearly gates.

The Il Lago restaurant is a “must do,” whether you stay at this Four Seasons or not. It spills out a decked area that overlooks one of the prettiest streets in Geneva. The decking is protected by olive trees and flowers, candlelit and romantic, whilst still is undoubtedly in the heart of Geneva.

Sounds of clip-clopping horse-drawn carriages mix with the farty exhausts of the occasional Ferrari (which all, by the way, seemed to be stopping by the Four Seasons), but somehow the protective olive trees and greenery simultaneously whisked to a romantic garden on a Tuscan hillside. Read more about the food in our full restaurant review of Il Lago At Four Seasons Geneva to find out how good it is.

In the winter, you eat inside in the historic dining room, which offers old European charm and the same incredible fine dining, but if you can visit in the summer as the alfresco experience is truly fantastic.

This alfresco eaterie is just across the water from historic lakeside buildings that stand to attention, topped with sparkling letters from Cartier, Hublot, and Rolex, which light up the night sky.

10. Four Seasons Resort, Megève, French Alps

Situated in Megève in the French Alps, the Four Seasons Megeve is the only hotel located on the slopes of Mont d’Arbois, five minutes from the village centre. This is one of the best ski hotels in Europe.

Megève is superbly pretty but low-lying, so be careful when you book. This is not a ski resort you want to visit in November or April as you are unlikely to find brilliant conditions, much like the expensive but lovely Gstaad. However, Megeve does have direct access to more than 400 km of ski slopes.

This Four Seasons hotel is the first to offer a Ski Valet and Ski Concierge service and Ski Safaris by helicopter to allow skiers to discover more ski areas. Various winter outdoor activities are available near the hotel, from snowboarding, dog sledding, rock climbing, and ice sports such as hockey, skating and curling.
