Trainers are the only way to walk long distances in comfort when traveling. We try to avoid leather and other animal-derived materials in favor of vegan trainers. You can do this without breaking the bank or compromising on style and we have picked out favorite brands below.

1. Cocorose cactus leather Vegan Trainers

When it comes to sustainable and stylish footwear perfect for travel, Cocorose London has led the way with its innovative, foldable shoes, and now they have extended their collection by introducing very comfy vegan trainers.

Founded in 2007 by Janan, Cocorose London started with foldable shoes designed to relieve women who are tired of painful high heels. They have recently released a groundbreaking collection of Cocorose London vegan trainers that are incredibly made from organic cactus leather. Who even knew cactus leather even existed?

These trainers look like they are real leather but are plant-powered. The collection is appropriately called the Desert Rose Collection. These trainers are not just vegan; they are crafted using organic cactus leather, a material as innovative as it is environmentally friendly.

The leather is harvested in Zacatecas, Mexico, from perennial cactus plants and requires no irrigation, thus significantly reducing water usage during manufacturing. The cactus leaves are dried naturally under the sun, ensuring minimal energy consumption during production, and the soles of these trainers are equally eco-conscious, incorporating 30% recycled cork.

The use of cactus leather is a true game-changer in the fashion industry. Unlike traditional leather production, which often involves harmful chemicals and high water usage, cactus leather is a sustainable alternative. It retains a supple, soft texture, similar to animal leather, making it an ideal material for footwear. This innovative leather is produced in Italy, where the mature cactus leaves are processed into a durable, flexible material that is 100% vegan, recyclable, and, most importantly, highly comfortable!

They look good, too. The off-white cactus leather is complemented by your choice of red, rosa, blossom, navy, bordeaux, beige and marine accents, and a luxurious dusky pink lining, making these shoes as stylish as they are comfortable. There are ten unique designs to choose from. With no need for breaking in, they’re ready to wear straight out of the box.

2. Adidas By Stella Mccartney Vegan Shoes

Adidas By Stella Mccartney Vegan Shoes aren’t cheap. Her trainers start at £180, and her vegan clogs start at £120. They also look a little weird (sorry, Stella!).

Her black vegan running shoes are sleek and look like ordinary running shoes, but her black and blue or pink and grey trainers remind me of sea slugs with outrageously nobly soles and a flat wide design of the upper that I’m not particularly partial to.

Who knows, maybe tropical sea slug, what the look Stella was going for. These vegan trainers are certainly statement pieces and will ensure you stand out, and although they are weird and their design could be based on a horror from the deep, they are the kind of shoes that will make you smile when you see them in your wardrobe. They’re fun!

3. Allbirds Tree Runners

Unlike Stella’s trainers, the Allbirds Tree Runners are vegan shoes that are not going to cause an argument. These demure and inoffensive shoes are made from sustainable eucalyptus tree fiber and sugarcane-based soles, the Allbirds Tree Runners are incredibly breathable, soft, and lightweight.

The company also focuses on eco-friendly materials and production methods, making them an excellent choice for eco-conscious travelers. Their breathability makes them perfect for warm climates, while their simple style is versatile enough for various outfits and occasions. The downside is they are a bit boring.

4. Veja V-10 Vegan

Veja is known for its commitment to ethical practices, and the V-10 Vegan is no exception. These shoes are stylish and sustainable and made from materials like recycled polyester, wild rubber, and organic cotton. They provide excellent support and comfort, making them ideal for walking or casual exploring during travel.

These trainers are great for travel because they are lightweight, durable, and breathable, with a clean, minimalist design that can transition from casual sightseeing to dinner.

5. Nae Vegan Shoes

Nae Vegan Shoes are 100% vegan and focus on using eco-friendly materials such as recycled PET, cork, and organic cotton. They have loads of tennis style trainers and stylish canvas shoes that are great for walking or nautical adventures. We love all their different styles. These trainers balance comfort, durability, and vegan ethics, making them excellent choices for conscious travelers.
