British Airways flies out of Nice Airport to London Heathrow from Terminal 1. The Canopy Lounge is a Priority Pass VIP lounge that British Airways Club Europe travelers and Priority Pass holders can access.
This is not an official British Airways airport lounge. You can access this lounge with a Priority Pass or a Lounge Pass, but it is the lounge that you get access to if you are departing from Nice Airport Terminal 1 on British Airways. You can read all my British Airways airport lounge reviews separately.
Location
The lounge sits above the main foyer in Nice Airport Terminal 1 departures. It can be reached by going through passports to your gate and then by climbing a spiral staircase or by traveling up a level in a glass lift from the departure hall.
This area hosts other flights and other carriers departing internationally. This lounge is also shared by Emirates passengers flying to Dubai and Air Lingus flying to Ireland, as well as passengers on other international flights.
It is ideally located just above the international departure gate for British Airways flights. You can actually see the queue forming at the gates from the lounge if your gate is on the upper level.
If your gate is on the lower level (bad luck as you’re in for an unpleasant bus transfer whether you are flying in Economy or Business Class), you don’t have a direct line of sight to the gate, but you can see when the flood of passengers in the waiting area suddenly disappear, so it’s easy to see when your flight is boarding.
Style & Character
The Canopy Lounge, NCE Airport Terminal 1, has two main sections. One area, which also houses the buffet area and reception desk, is set up with lots of single leather sofa seats with tables between them and, in places, double sofas.
There are partitions between the seats so that each area is separated from the next, giving a level of privacy. This area also has views down to the gates.
The second section is designed like a garden and has big palm trees in it. This area houses garden style furniture with rattan and metal seats offering green and cream leather cushions and a long table with benches to either side.
This garden area feels fun and refreshing for an airport and is where we usually choose to sit. There are toilets, which are nicely kept, leading off from this area, and the seating in this area is comfortable and spacious.
Food & Drink
Previously, the lounge laid on a meager buffet, which made me question whether this Nice Airport lounge was the worst British Airways lounge but since this visit, the lounge food spread has vastly improved.
There is more than enough food to fill you up in this lounge. On one counter is fresh bread and lots of biscuits and crisp options. Another has a full salad with tomatoes, sweetcorn, carrot, lettuce, and coleslaw along with colled drinks, whine and Prosecco.
There are numerous coffee machines that also offer a variety of teas with hot water, all surrounded by snacks and individually wrapped biscuits.
Next to the salad are noodles, nuts, a big vat of soup, cold pizza, olive bread, and a wall of spirits including baileys, vodka, Martini, and gin. There is also whole fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts to nibble on.
There are fridges with cold cuts, decent wraps, sandwiches, milk, yogurt, muffins, mini desserts, and apple sauce that you can pick from. Plus, these fridges contain fruit juices, water, cold cans of fizzy drinks, and beers.
Conclusion
The best thing about the lounge is its location. You can sit in the lounge and watch people queue up for your flight, knowing that you are just moments away from the boarding gate while still being in the comfort of the lounge. When the queue goes down, you can pounce, thus avoiding the pain of waiting in line. It is one of the few lounges where you really can leave the queue until the last minute before boarding.
This is a small, intimate lounge in the perfect location to get ready to depart for your flight. On location alone, this is one of my favorite airport lounges. I also happen to like the sandwiches.
