The best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Budapest are listed below. Our reviews are based on personal visits, and you can see the photos we took of each hotel to get a unique perspective on what each hotel is really like.
1. Ritz-Carlton Budapest
Ritz-Carlton Budapest is our second favorite luxury hotel in Budapest after Four Seasons Budapest. The hotel is the best Marriott Bonvoy hotel in Budapest, and it has the best club lounge in Budapest.
The breathtaking marble foyer of the Ritz-Carlton Budapest, adorned with elegant floral arrangements, is filled with cheerful staff who warmly greet you at every turn. We greatly appreciated the hospitality of the staff. Given Budapest’s distinct Eastern European ambiance and our unfamiliarity with the Hungarian language, the city initially felt quite foreign to us. However, the warmth and kindness of the staff truly made us feel at home.
Highlights of the Ritz-Carlton Budapest include an excellent breakfast, which is free if you book via our luxury travel concierge. This breakfast is delicious, and the buffet and a la carte options are varied and immense. The food is delivered by fabulous staff who care and love to have a joke. The breakfast is served in the main restaurant that spills out into a high-end shopping street.
Other standout features include the stunning views overlooking the lively Erzsébet Square and the hotel’s prime location in the heart of the main shopping district, with shops and restaurants just steps away. The rooftop pool and gym are excellent, and the club lounge, hailed by us as the best in Budapest, is truly exceptional.
The club lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Budapest is brilliant. It’s the best Ritz-Carlton Club lounge that we’ve tried. The setting is modern and stylish, with creams and dark chocolate furnishings.
The cakes in this lounge are exquisite, the breakfast offerings are abundant, and a dedicated lounge chef freshly prepares the food. Afternoon tea is a lavish spread of mini sandwiches, scones, pastries, and more. In the evening, guests can indulge in fine wines and other alcoholic beverages, complemented by a delightful selection of hot and cold dishes, including flavorful vegetables and salads that are absolutely delicious.
The rooms at the Ritz-Carlton are spacious, featuring large bathrooms, blackout curtains, and comfortable beds, with a modern and functional design, though not especially remarkable. The pool, while a pleasant feature, is on the smaller side and was quite chilly during our stay. Despite this, it remains an enjoyable space. The gym is well-equipped with a comprehensive selection of machines to meet all your workout needs.
2. Matild Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel
Matild Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel, is part of the Mariott Bonvoy brand, much like the Ritz-Carlton and is located on the far end of the main shopping precinct from the Ritz-Carlton, near Elizabeth Bridge.
This UNESCO World Heritage site has recently undergone extensive renovations, beautifully restoring its Belle Époque charm. Matild Palace seamlessly blends old-world elegance with modern luxury in a boutique-style setting. While its communal areas are more intimate than those at the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, the hotel’s intricate, ornate detailing sets it apart, making it a standout choice in Budapest.
The rooms at Matild Palace are our top pick among Budapest’s luxury hotels. Their playful design combines sassy fringed mustard floor lamps with turquoise sofas, chic mirrors, and stylish headboards, creating an eclectic and uplifting vibe. The turquoise theme extends into the bathrooms, where walls are adorned with a vibrant mosaic of turquoise and gold tiles that radiate joy. Paired with golden fixtures, a sleek sink, a Japanese automatic toilet, and indulgent toiletries, the bathroom becomes a space so luxurious, you may never want to leave.
To reach the rooms, you ascend in a Willy Wonka-style glass elevator from the ultra-stylish and visually stunning lobby. Much of the hotel feels like stepping into the pages of a high-end design magazine, and in terms of sheer style, Matild Palace outshines the Ritz-Carlton. However, we’ve ranked Matild Palace third on our list because the staff at the Ritz-Carlton were truly exceptional, and we preferred the fresh flowers and the breakfast experience there over what Matild Palace offered.
That said, the breakfast was brilliant at Matild Palace (and free if you book a stay here via our luxury travel concierge). In the evening, Matild Palace offers an exceptional dining experience at Chef Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant. There’s also The Duchess, an adults-only rooftop bar boasting incredible views. Although it’s highly recommended, we didn’t visit as we were traveling with our son.
3. Budapest Marriott
A few buildings up the river from the Mandarin Oriental Budapest and Matild Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel is the Budapest Marriott, a stark modern monster located on the banks of the River Dube and offering incredible views across the river and over to the Castle beyond.
This is a great Marriott with arguably the best Marriott club lounge in the world. The entire building has been meticulously refurbished, with the rooms, club lounge, and restaurant beautifully redesigned. Large windows throughout the hotel provide stunning views of the Danube.
In front of the hotel, delightful terraces invite guests to relax and enjoy alfresco dining by the river. These terraces overlook a pedestrianized, tree-lined promenade that runs along the Danube’s banks. Additionally, the hotel features a rooftop cocktail bar offering breathtaking views.
We believe the Budapest Marriott provides the best value in Budapest, combining a prime location with some of the city’s most spectacular views. While it may not be the most luxurious option, it offers an excellent deal and a charming setting, making it an ideal base for your next visit to Budapest.
The M Club Lounge at the Marriott Budapest is magnificent with its own private terrace, stunningly large windows that look out over the Danube and a modern vibe and great food. If you book a stay here, it’s worth trying their club lounge.
4. Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection
The Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection, is a recent addition to Budapest’s luxury accommodation scene, blending modern elegance with historical charm. Located in the heart of District V, the hotel spans three historic buildings, including the former United Budapest Metropolitan Savings Bank. It offers a blend of contemporary and heritage design elements.
The Dorothea Hotel offers 216 guest rooms and suites, divided into two distinct styles. Contemporary rooms feature sleek modern elements, including dark wood floors and peacock blue curtains, while Neo-Renaissance-style windows, four-poster canopy beds, and vintage-inspired accents characterize heritage rooms. Each room showcases artwork by Hungarian photographer Zoltán Tombor, celebrating the city’s artistic heritage.
The hotel’s amenities are thoughtfully designed to enhance the guest experience. Highlights include a tranquil spa with a pool, sauna, steam room, and an inner courtyard home to the Pavilon Restaurant & Bar, where farm-to-table, locally sourced cuisine is served. Guests can also anticipate two forthcoming restaurants helmed by Michelin-starred chef Dani García, including a rooftop Andalusian brasserie. Perfectly situated near iconic landmarks like the Danube River, the Dorothea Hotel offers not just accommodation but a gateway to Budapest’s vibrant cultural and architectural legacy.
